Position Summary Information

Job Summary

The Production Editor II works with Production Editors to produce expedition publications and other program materials. Coordinate with members of the editorial and graphics sections to maintain style and consistency. Apply standard formats, style guidelines, and workflow procedures. Coordinate at least one area for the Production section.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of related experience in electronic publishing and printing.

Knowledge of – Proficiency in the use of publication software. Advanced knowledge of HTML and CSS. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Detailed Job Duties

Duties Performed

Produce draft and final products for IODP riser, riserless, and mission-specific expedition volume materials, reports, and expedition research manuscripts. Provide postcruise meeting support. Produce publications for special projects. Perform legacy tasks for previous program materials. Lay out chapter galleys for author review, and apply author changes. Assist with producing interactive PDFs and HTML translations and web content. Prepare volume zip files to be included with the electronic volume. Prepare volume front matter and ensure contents are complete and correct.

Duties Performed

Coordinate one or more production section tasks such as: Registering digital object identifier (DOI) metadata to CrossRef; Registering CrossMark metadata to CrossRef; Updating the production volume schedule posting. Administrative: Attend section, department, and program meetings; Attend JRSO Team meetings as assigned; Maintain email communication with Expedition Project Managers and scientific participants; Organize and maintain publications files to preserve version control; Maintain activity, time, and leave records; Keep current with TAMU-required training.

Duties Performed

Understand and implement IODP style for publications materials. Understand the publication workflow from submission to publication. Use available resources are to find information. Participate as needed or assigned in ongoing research into software, hardware, and other technologies or techniques that will streamline production and keep IODP publications technically current. Learn production techniques beyond the basics. Assist with training Production Editor I staff on basic production tasks. Attend advanced software training as assigned.

Duties Performed

Carry out standards and style guidelines for quality control. Ensure quality, consistency, and completeness in all publications. Proof HTML and PDF online publications and other web content. Work with graphics and editorial sections to promote consistency throughout each volume.
