Position Summary Information

Job Summary

Research position to study how different types of information presentation influence the ability to interpret and remember infographic visualizations. The project includes the design, implementation, and execution of an experiment to evaluate human memory and the ability to interpret infographics. A study in a public setting in which we will observe interactions with infographic signage and interview observers about perceptions and interpretations, and a laboratory-based experiment to evaluate understanding and perceptions in a more controlled setting. Familiarity in multiple of the following areas is expected: Graphic design and associated software; Research methods and experimental design for the field of human-centered design; Programming development languages for interactive web-based data visualizations; Server administration for web hosting and data collection; Quantitative data analysis methods; Research writing.

Major/Essential Duties of Job

The work will require the design and creation of visual infographics, the design and development of software applications needed to present graphics and questions to viewers, as well as to collect responses to those questions. This is an hourly wage position. Hours are flexible, but the employee will be expected to work between 10-30 hours per week. Duties involve experimental design, creation of graphics, web programming, data analysis, and reporting.
