This is a 9 month position working from mid-August to mid-May. The position will be 100% working 40 hours per week, hours may vary. Position Summary Information

Job Summary

(9 month, 100%) The Transit Bus Driver, under supervision, drives Texas A&M University transit routes as scheduled. Assists in training new drivers and provides customer service by assisting with customer questions.

Required Education and Experience

High School Diploma or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years work experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Previous commercial driving experience, customer service experience, training experience and mechanical experience.

Required Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations

Valid vehicle operator’s license and good driving record. Must be able to obtain State of Texas class “B” vehicle operator’s license (Commercial Drivers License with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement) within 45 days of employment.

Preferred Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations

Commercial vehicle operator’s license with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement.

Required Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Demonstrate the ability to operate several types of buses and vans to the extent of maneuvering safely through congested traffic conditions, adverse weather and road conditions. Exhibit a high degree of mental concentration and independent judgement. Good verbal and written communication skills. Experience with computers. Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Detailed Job Duties

Duties Performed

Drive Texas A&M University transit routes as scheduled; operate assigned equipment in a safe manner and in adherence to all University and unit policies as well as local, state and federal laws.

Assist management and supervisors train new drivers by teaching and demonstrating driving techniques, evaluating and providing feedback to the drivers and provide followup or retraining as necessary.

Conduct a proper “pre” and “post” trip vehicle inspection and note any discrepancies at the beginning and end of every shift; report any potentially hazardous vehicle maintenance or safety issues immediately to a Transit Supervisor. Responsible for cleanliness of all equipment assigned during shift. Assist with ride checks, update body diagrams, check timetables and observations.

Persons in this position will be required to drive state vehicle to travel to various parts of campus and are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc.
