Position Summary Information

Job Summary

The Software Applications Developer I is responsible for: functioning as a developer on a programming team assigned to complex projects and providing consulting, technical support, and training to users of custom application software and to technical staff.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of related software applications development experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and two years experience in computer or web programming and software development.

Detailed Job Duties

Duties Performed

As directed, develop and write new computer and web programs to display information from and save information to databases. Develop using Visual Studio IDE, ASP.Net, Reporting Services, .Net framework, MVC, and Team Foundation source control software. Write object-oriented code using C#, VB.Net, or other programming languages applicable for the project at hand. Write JavaScript, CSS, HTML, iScript, jQuery, and other scripting languages. Debug complex software. Program for SQL database, PLSQL database, and other relational databases. Follows internal coding best practices. Maintain, modify, enhance, test, rewrite, and repair existing programs and software packages.

Follows system and programming standards. Learns new programming languages, software development techniques, and work processes. Keep current in growth as a professional developer through a combination of reading online blogs and articles, watching videos and seminars; reading books; conversing with fellow developers; and instructor led training. Produces reports and summaries, including status tracking reports and progress summaries for review by supervisor.

Duties Performed

Recommends technical and procedural design for new or revised applications. Compiles and documents design concepts, specifications and other web and programming software related information. Ensures that specifications and customer requirements are converted into logical flowcharts and mockup diagrams. Follows internal procedures for software security.

Creates test plans. Tests and debugs (and assists in testing and debugging) application software systems by analyzing output and making necessary adjustments, to ensure applications conforms to specifications when implemented by customers. Follows internal testing procedures. Prepares, performs, and tests application and database deployments in pre-production environments. Documents production deployment steps to be run by the designated production deployers. Follows internal procedures for deploying software.

Duties Performed

Answers questions and provides technical assistance and/or training to application users. Provides on-call support after business hours including nights and weekends as needed. Position may be required to occasionally work outside regularly scheduled hours (in cases of system upgrades, system support, and/or the timely completion of major information technology projects).
