Position Summary Information

Job Summary

Perform independent or supervisory roles in research activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge of economics, are predominantly intellectual and varied in character, and require consistent use of discretion and judgment. Prepare research data sets, write research reports, support research activities, and collaborate on research projects.

Major/Essential Duties of Job

Work on a series of new and ongoing projects at the Private Enterprise Research. The projects involve gathering, collecting, and analyzing data under the guidance of PERC staff. The projects will involve writing up results for the general public. Excellent communication and writing skills are required. Projects may involve designing, creating and maintaining various databases useful to PERC staff.

Occasional Duties

Design, plan and conduct research on multiple projects. Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of routine research; keep detailed records of data. Use computers to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of data. Summarize results for inclusion in scientific and policy oriented publications. Supervise undergraduates involved in research.

Required Education and Experience

Necessary qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree, from an accredited university or college, in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related degree and four years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree from an accredited university or college, in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related degree and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s degree from an accredited university or college, in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related degree. Experience in independent data analysis and programming.

Advanced knowledge of economics is required. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated strong programming and data analysis skills, and to applicants with demonstrated proficiency in STATA programming.

An ability to multitask and work on several projects simultaneously is required, as are strong qualitative and quantitative analysis skills.
