Position Summary Information

Job Summary

The Project Manager II (IT Project Manager II) is responsible for functioning as a lead information technology project manager on project sponsor support team assigned to assist developers and implementers of complex information technology solutions. Provide project management oversight and coordinate training for development and implementation teams.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years of project management related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s degree. Prefer experience managing concurrent, high-complexity initiatives across the domains of: system deployment, information technology infrastructure, information technology services.

Project Management Professional or other project management certification, Information Technology Infrastructure Library certification.

Required Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with a diverse range of people. Must have strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Proven ability to manage departmental and enterprise-level information technology projects. Knowledge of multiple Project Management Methodologies (e.g. Traditional, Iterative, Scrum, PRINCE2). Skills in mentoring, negotiating, basic vendor relations, advanced client relations skills, proposal writing, business acumen, persuasive communication, adaptability to change, team leadership skills, and quality assurance. Advanced industry related skills to include, advanced proficiency with ITIL, IT project management protocols, knowledge of IT security regulations, IT architecture sourcing, and knowledge of current IT industry issues and trends. Proven record of strong oral and written communication skills. Self-motivation and the ability to work independently to see a project through to completion.

Detailed Job Duties

Duties Performed

Provide project management consulting service and support for departmental and enterprise-level information technology projects. Provide technical oversight regarding the use of project management guidelines, methodologies, tools, and templates for information technology development and implementation projects. Research information technology project management problems and develop recommended solutions for project sponsors. Provide technical guidance for the maintenance of expertise regarding information technology project management. Advise and educate project sponsors and team members regarding information technology project management policies, practices, and procedures. Effectively use project management software to manage information technology projects. Develop and enforce standards and procedures that provide for the most effective implementation of accepted industry and institution information technology project management practices.

May coordinate the technical activities of a project team. Complete reports and summaries for management and/or users including status reports, problem reports, progress summaries, and system utilization reports. Serve as a senior member of an information resource team responsible for setting technical direction. Perform all or some of the duties of a Project Manager I.

Use established project management protocols, as documented in the established methodology, to lead the planning, execution, and successful completion of concurrent, strategic IT projects. Facilitate the analysis of project risks and manage as appropriate, including recommendation of solutions. When directed, develop project or area budgets, including tracking expenditures and revenues. Identify, prioritize, schedule and direct the activities of a large or multiple project team/s. Direct the development of project or task plans, resource estimates, and schedules. Coordinate activities with the management of other organizational units and vendors. Direct the preparation of project documentation and reports for clients and/or management, according to the established methodology. When directed, oversee and coordinate the evaluation, selection, and purchase of computing resources and/or consulting services.
