Position Summary Information

Job Summary

The Associate Director of Career Services is responsible for assisting the Assistant Dean in all aspects of departmental operations and administration including departmental surveys, reports, and oversees the judicial clerkship and large law firm employment programs. The incumbent will design, implement, oversee, and evaluate a comprehensive career development program for students pursuing judicial clerkships and large law firm employment. Responsibilities include counseling students and alumni on the judicial clerkship and large law firm application process and overseeing seminar programming and events focusing on judicial clerkships and large law firms. The incumbent will engage in outreach and recruitment of large law firm employers and the judiciary. The incumbent is also responsible for general career counseling of 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls on all aspects of legal career and professional development process including reviewing resumes, cover letters, job applications and conducting mock interviews.

Required Education and Experience

Juris Doctor degree. Five years of law practice experience, including experience as a judicial law clerk.

Preferred Education and Experience

Law practice experience in a large law firm and higher education, including supervisory experience.

State Bar License

Active membership in federal, state, and local bar associations.

Detailed Job Duties

Duties Performed

The Associate Director of Career Services is responsible for budgeting and implementing the judicial clerkship program and large law firm placement and serves as part of the department leadership team for Career Services alongside the Assistant Dean. The Associate Director assists the Assistant Dean in budgeting for the department, and developing and implementing overall departmental strategic plans. The Associate Director assists the Assistant Dean in formulating policies and procedures for the department. The Associate Director supervises and directs activities of project teams.

Duties Performed

The incumbent will engage in outreach and recruitment of large law firm employers and the judiciary courts. The incumbent will manage communications with the judiciary courts and large firms and represent the law school at employer recruitment meetings and professional association events. The incumbent will work with the appropriate faculty committees. The Associate Director provides career counseling to law students and alumni with a particular focus on judicial clerkships and large firms. The incumbent is also responsible for general career counseling of 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls on all aspects of legal career and professional development process including reviewing resumes, cover letters, job applications and conducting mock interviews. The incumbent will work with the Assistant Director to manage and lead on-campus interviews (OCI), resume collects, job postings, and job fairs related to judicial clerkships and large firms.

Duties Performed

The Associate Director oversees the coordination of the clerkship program and large law firm placement, ensuring placement of graduates into clerkships and coordinating interns as judicial clerks. The incumbent will create, develop, and oversee all career services resources (online and hard copy) related to the judicial clerkship and large law firms application process and work with the appropriate faculty committees. The incumbent will establish performance goals and measures to evaluate the success of the clerkship program and large law firm placement, and ensure program goals are consistent with departmental and University missions.

The Associate Director will work in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Career Services to oversee the administration of the exit survey, graduate employment survey, and year end reports for submission to the National Association of Law Placement, the American Bar Association, and US News and World Report. The incumbent will oversee the collection, entry and analysis of exit interview and graduate employment data and in the production of year-end reports for all major functional programs.
