Position Summary Information

Job Summary

The Coordinator of Student Engagement/Campus Recreation is responsible for organizing, administering, supervising and evaluating the intramural and fitness center components of the recreation program within the University Center, including the hiring, training, scheduling, supervision and payroll preparation for all intramural and fitness student employees. Campus Recreation is a part of the Student Services Department within the division of Student Engagement and Success.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Three years of related experience in coordinating events.

Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with other.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience in a programmatic position in recreation or sports.

Thorough knowledge of sports and their organization and administration.

Knowledge of the area of facility management and maintenance.

Ability to deal with staff members, students and/or faculty on a daily basis.

CPR/First Aid Instructor as required.

Master’s Degree.

Two (2) or more years’ experience in Intramural Sports, Fitness or Wellness.

Detailed Job Duties

Duties Performed

Coordination of intramural sports leagues including promotion, registrations, scheduling of games, playoffs, awards, equipment maintenance and risk management, as well as hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of student referees.

Maintain accurate participation records as well as financial records for all intramural sports.

Develop marketing plan and publicity for each activity through various university media.

Work with Coordinator of Student Engagement/Activities to promote an active program that encourages the holistic development of students.

Develop and maintain appropriate rules to ensure safety of participants.

Mediate disputes that arise in the course of intramural games.

Supervise and plan activity and physical wellness in the fitness center and studio.

Teach or arrange instructors for classes that promote the health and wellness of student, faculty and staff.

Develop budgets for events and student led activities.

Ensure completion of after-action reports for relevant activities.

Assess and mitigate possible risk associated with campus recreational activities.

Lead student workshops concerning issues such as university rules and policies, leadership development, and risk management.

Communicates effectively and works well with faculty, staff, students, and public.

Promotes a positive environment.

Evaluates work methods and makes suggestions to improve procedures and job efficiency.

Demonstrates student services attitude in all interactions with students by providing cordial, caring, thorough, and encouraging assistance and direction.

Advise various student organizations.

Completes other tasks as assigned.
