Position Summary Information

Job Summary

The Maintenance Worker II is responsible for performing trade work at the semi-skilled level for maintenance and repair on new construction to Veterinary facilities. Provides care for animals and veterinary facilities. Operates and maintains mechanical equipment.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years in building, machinery, and/or equipment maintenance, installation and repair work; materials handling, warehouse operation or landscape irrigation systems.

Preferred Education and Experience

High School graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience and specific training in area related to a particular assignment. Experience with large animal care in biomedical research. Biosafety Level 2 animal care and animal restraint experience. Tractor/mower operating experience. Preferred one year animal care experience.

Required Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations

Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Must be able to obtain State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license within 30 days of employment.

TAMU Respirator Fit-Test Certification

Required Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Must be capable of making measurements and working with accurate dimensions and possess considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to comprehend instructions.

Will require weekend hours worked on a rotation schedule. Once hired, employee will receive training by the Office of Safety Occupational Health Program on Biosafety Level 2.

Detailed Job Duties

Duties Performed

Performs trade work at the semi-skilled level for maintenance and repair or new construction to Veterinary facilities; operates motor vehicles in the performance of duties and in transit to work locations.

Duties Performed

Ground maintenance to include mowing pastures, edging and trims around property. Operates and maintains mechanical equipment.

Duties Performed

Feeds and waters research animals, cleans and disinfects animal housing facilities, disposes of animal and carcasses in prescribed manner.

Performs other duties as assigned.
