Position Summary Information

Job Summary

The IT Professional I, under general supervision, meets the IT needs of a unit where multifaceted expertise is required. Performs in specialty areas of systems, services, applications, and/or database management. Performs unit-level support in multiple technical fields.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of information technology server administration experience, including Linux, Apache HTTP Server, and MySQL.

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience with any of the following IT environments or tools: Puppet, Virtual Machines (VMs), WordPress, Drupal, Docker, LDAP, and Network Attached Storage (NAS).

Detailed Job Duties

Duties Performed

Plans, researches, purchases, implements, upgrades, configures, maintains and recommends improvements to the Liberal Arts IDHMC Linux infrastructure in conjunction with the Director of Information Technology and other Senior Liberal Arts IT professionals. Implements computer and network policies as appropriate. Insures data and processing integrity. Troubleshoots network and Internet connectivity problems. Monitors and maintains system security. Work with and provide assistance to senior Liberal Arts IT professionals supporting the overall college server infrastructure.

Duties Performed

Meet and coordinate with the Director for Digital Humanities, faculty and staff supporting the IDHMC to provide and recommend an IT environment capable of support current needs and allow for future growth. Meet regularly with college IT professionals to coordinate strategic directions and plan future initiatives in keeping with shared service philosophy. Coordinate research on new and emerging network technologies and methodologies as appropriate.

Create and maintain documentation detailing the IDHMC server infrastructure and overall database structure(s) and processes.

Participate in training and professional development sessions as necessary. Participate in the Liberal Arts IT meetings and appropriate University forums (e.g., IT Forum).
